Dr. Trish Dykes-Sullivan grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She made Atlanta, Georgia her home in 2016 where she worked as a classroom teacher in grades kindergarten through 5th, gaining over 10 years of experience. Her love for teaching and learning developed when she noticed the joy on her students' faces when they mastered a new skill. She has a bachelor's degree in elementary education, a master's degree in teaching and Leadership, and a doctorate degree in educational leadership and administration. She also holds a principal certification. She believes that educators are lifelong learners and strives to stay up the date with the ever-changing world of education.
Dr. Dykes-Sullivan transitioned out of the classroom to become a stay-at-home mom to her three children, a newborn and two toddlers. One of her toddlers is a former 25-weeker, Hydrocephalus warrior, who spent 105 days in the NICU. The NICU experience motivated her to become an advocate for children with disabilities. Caring for and teaching her children in a home setting is what encouraged Dr. Dykes-Sullivan to open and in-home daycare.
All children are capable of learning, and it is crucial for teachers to understand the different learning styles within their classrooms. Knowing a student’s personality, likes/dislikes, and past history can allow a teacher to assess the appropriate teaching style needed to reach individual students.
